Grading Policy

A student’s grade reflects three skills of language proficiency and class preparation/participation.

  1. Interpretive 30%

  • Reading of authentic texts (e.g. websites, stories and other literature, articles, signs)

  • Listening to authentic texts (e.g. speeches, messages, songs, radio news, ads)

  • Viewing of authentic materials (e.g. videos, movies, presentations, TV shows, commercials, news, plays)

  1. Interpersonal 30%

  • Speaking and listening (e.g. conversation, asking and answering questions)

  • Reading and writing (e.g. text messages, messages on social media, letters, emails)

  1. Presentational 30%

  • Writing (e.g. articles, advertisements, short stories, reports, scripts, Power Point/Google Slide presentations);

  • Speaking (e.g. telling a story, giving a speech, oral presentation of a Power Point/Google Slide project, reporting a TV or radio news, skits)

  1. Class Prep/Participation 10%

  • Homework assignments

  • 15 checkmarks each month to receive “A”. Students can also make an appointment with teacher to practice speaking during afternoon sessions or in other time. They may receive 3-5 checkmarks each time when they have a conversation with teacher in Chinese. Students also do other assignments in class.

  • Class attendance

Students are encouraged to communicate with the teacher concerning their academic performance.
